CHOOSING YOUR DOMAIN
NAME
You need to decide
on your domain name, here are some tips and aspects to
consider before making your
decision:
- how your domain name
sounds
- is it
memorable?
- how easy it is going
to be to tell customers over the phone
- how it might look on
a business card
- how well it relates
to your business.
Your website
domain name is the name people may use to find your website on
the Internet, for example:
www.oldtowntrading.co.uk
. Think of it
as a label on a filing cabinet. Your domain name will be what
you’re known by online, so it's important to get it right! Some
common names have already been snapped up so aren't
available.
Bear in mind, the longer and more
complicated your domain name the greater risk of a potential
typing error when a client accesses your site or emails
you.
A domain name is not much use on
its own. You’ll also need to purchase some server space in
which to store your websites content, (also known
as hosting ) usually from the
same supplier used to purchase your domain name. Once your
domain name is linked to your hosting space, these two elements
combine to make your website.
